World Health Day: 7th April 2021

April 3, 2021 |

Topic: Healthy Ageing

The 7th April 2021 marks World Health Day. This year’s theme is ‘Building a fairer, healthier world.’

Over the last year as we experienced a global pandemic, it highlighted that some people are able to live healthier lives and have access to health support and services based on their location, age or where they’ve been born.

At Altura Learning we are passionate about making a meaningful difference to the lives of our learners and in turn the people they care for, or support. We want to ensure that every staff member is receiving education that supports the delivery of best practice care.

As people age, generally there is a gradual decrease in mental and physical capacity and an increase in propensity for developing diseases or conditions such as sensory loss, diabetes, cardiac conditions or dementia.

Staff who work in aged care, need to have a thorough understanding of the ageing process so they can recognise what’s a normal part of ageing and what may require an further assessment and possibly interventions.

The Altura Learning Residential Care library’s course Understanding the Ageing Process provides a great overview of the ageing process and how it affects each body system. It also explains how the ageing process may impact a person’s day to day life and care, so it’s great for staff who are new to a care home environment or as a refresher.
The Home Care course Recognising Changes in Client Needs details the pivotal role that care staff play in recognising changes and deterioration in a person’s condition and what to do if a change is recognised.
